5/21/2022 – DeSoto ISD Teacher Job Fair [TX]
May 21, 2022 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm CDT
Event will be held at DeSoto High School in the academy cafeteria located at 600 Eagle Drive from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
The district desires to employ several qualified, committed professionals including certified elementary and secondary teachers and bilingual and special education staff. District leaders are also seeking academic tutors, volunteers, part-time instructors, and even retired educators who desire to help close academic gaps and learning lags as a result of the continuing COVID-19 pandemic.
“As a district, we want to continue to move our students from good to great to sustainability by ensuring student achievement outcomes are the best they have ever been. We are in the midst of acquiring highly-qualified staff to join our team to keep the momentum going,” said Dr. Larry Lewis, interim superintendent of DeSoto ISD. “Join us on our next Career Expo so YOU too can become a “difference-maker” for our Eagle scholars to soar!”
The district has solidified its focus on student and teacher support by developing various incentive and wellness programs, instituting additional layers of instructional support for teachers, administrators, and even its support staff, providing continuous mentorship, embedded professional development for staff, on-campus instructional support, and teacher professional learning communities and offers interactive wellness programming, staff mental health days, access to professional support services, and maintains a strong focus on social-emotional wellness for the entire school community.
“As educators maintain a focus on the development of the whole child, in DeSoto ISD, we aim to support our staff by focusing on the whole human being,” said Elexia Robinson-White, DeSoto ISD recruitment and engagement coordinator.
The district has ramped up its already competitive compensation packages providing additional incentives for employee referrals, returning alumni, and new-hire bonuses, and its newest incentive – the Texas Teacher Incentive Allotment program that will provide qualified employees up to $25,000 a year based on their performance data around student growth. These employees will also receive a state high-performance designation added to the teacher credentials.
Aside from tangible benefits, DeSoto teachers understand the heart of the work and are driven by purpose. Teaching is more than a job, it is an opportunity to change lives and have students realize their dreams.
Kenya Brown-Wilson, Advanced Academics Science teacher at DeSoto High School, is one of many instructional staff members, who has a heart for students and daily aim to transform the lives of students.
“DeSoto is a family-oriented district. From preschool to 12th grade, the families in our community are at the heart of every decision we make. Our mission focuses on ensuring students learn and grow at their highest levels and we can’t do that alone, said Wilson-Brown. “DeSoto is a place of growth and forward-thinking. It’s a place of innovation and constant improvement. There is no room for average. It’s the atmosphere of achievement that makes me feel and believe DeSoto is a great place to be.”
